Summer Camp Adventures

Posted: Aug 13 2015

Hi Girls! I hope everyone is having an amazing summer! My summer has been great, so I wanted to tell you guys a little bit about it!

I recently attended a journalism camp at Mercer University’s Center for Collaborative Journalism in Macon Georgia! I was pretty nervous I have to admit, because it was the first time I had been away from home longer than a week without my parents or sisters. When I arrived to camp, I was instantly put at ease, because everyone was so welcoming and excited for what was to come in the next ten days that we spent together. I learned so many things about journalism that made me love it even more. I learned how to use Photoshop, how to write a feature story, how to edit videos, and how to conduct interviews. One of my favorite memories of camp was our trip to Atlanta where we toured CNN, the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and met some amazing and successful journalist. It was great to be a tourist in my own city for a day! At the end of camp, we came together to share the group projects that we created, which we put so much love and time into. If you’d like to check out our projects, you can find them at www.beingsouthern.us . While I was at Mercer, I fell in love with its beautiful campus, and the fantastic instructors that inspired me so much. I made so many new lifelong friends and so many memories that I will never forget. My whole take away from this experience that I believe is so important for girls our age to know is to go after your dreams even if they scare you at first. Do the things you love, and love the things you do. I discovered my love for journalism at camp, so now it’s time for you guys to go out and find something that you love! In the meantime, stay confident, stay happy, and stay active!
